I saw Al Franken and his "side kick", Katherine Lanpher, in an interview on MSNBC this afternoon. Air America Radio is on the air as of today. For the interview Franken and Lanpher were posed in the studio where they will, presumably, make their broadcasts. Their performance was sad. Or rather Franken's performance was sad, Lanpher was continuously pulling his bacon out of the fire. He couldn't even remember the stations they are to be on (there are, after all, six of them). Lanpher covered for tounge-tied Franken so often that the TV Host commented on how obvious it was that that was her job. Franken then tried to be funny about it and insulted the TV co-host. Realizing his gaff he said, 'I'm kidding... I'm kidding."
Lanpher was on a local am talk station, one of my two favorite stations, for almost a year and a half. She was so liberal as to be inane, the idiot side-kick on a panel-type morning drive show, very much more the Public Radio type. And that’s where she went. MPR, Minnesota Public Radio for the next five years or so. She was shrill and impossible to listen to. To say she has more radio experience than Franken is one thing, to say she's good at it is another thing completely.
If you go to the Air America Radio web site you’ll see the creative genius that is going to take over the air waves. Franken can’t even come up with a name for his own show, taking instead a clever variation on The O’Reilly Factor – The O’Franken Factor. Oh… man… that’s funny. And instead of the “No Spin Zone” Franken has the “Zero Spin Zone.” This ought to be a riot of original, witty discourse on liberal policy. Whatever that is.
