Now that things have percolated in my brain for a few hours I've noticed a couple of inconsistencies in John Kerry's positions during last nights debate.
First he kept insisting that we act bilaterally with North Korea while decrying bilateralism with Iraq. He insisted that the coalition of North Korea's neighbors, which the US and China both agree is the best way to address the NoKo problem, is unnecessary. At the same time he insisted that the coalition in Iraq doesn't exist. Both of these positions are indefensible and if I thought Kerry really meant either of them, which I don't, I would say that it shows he has a fundamental misunderstanding of the issues, which I think is true of his constituency or they would not be looking at him as viable.
Second , he persisted in trying to put forward the notion that Iraq is the wrong war, at the wrong time, in the wrong place, yet insisting that he could somehow convince France, Germany, and Russia (who have all said, in no uncertain terms, that they will have no part of it no matter who is president) to join him in a coalition to pursue it. I want to hear that conversation; Say, I've got this thing going over in Iraq that I think is a real quagmire, we shouldn't even be there, I mean whooee, what a mess! Could you guys help me out with it?
Here's the transcript.
